Corrupt Excel 2007 Data Extraction Tutorial

  1. Browse for your corrupt Excel file.

  2. Select an Excel 2007 file.  (Note it doesn't have to be corrupt if you have some other use for the data extraction).  You can also choose an Open Office Calc file.  Excel 97-2003 version spreadsheets currently don't work.

  3. Press the "Start Upload" button.

  4. Processing is usually pretty quick, but be patient with large files, a slow connection or both.

  5. The results page will display a blue or purple link to the extracted file.  It will have a ".txt" extension on the end.

  6. The converted text will probably be displayed in your browser or maybe Notepad if your  Windows is configured that way.

  7. Hit CTL + "c" on your keyboard to copy all the selected text to the clipboard.

  8. Switch to Excel.

  9. Open a new Excel File if one is not already open.

  10. Continuation of file opening...

  11. Accept the default choice of a Blank Worksheet.

  12. Create your blank workbook if you didn't already have one.

  13. Choose the drop down arrow on the paste choice of the Home menu.

  14. Make the "Paste Special" choice on the Paste menu.

  15. Choose to paste the data as "Text".

  16. The data should now be organized in columns.  You may need to make minor adjustments as to which column an individual cell's data should reside.  Let me know at socrtwo@s2services.com, if this overall method is causing significant jumbling up of column locations of the cell content. Note - if you originally had more than one worksheet, they will all be extracted into one text files, with each successive worksheet found below the data of the previous one.  You can cut and paste this data from the text file results into separate worksheets in your new workbook.
